All the Bright Places | Book Review | March 2017

“sometimes there’s beauty in the tough words—it’s all in how you read them.” – All the Bright Places (Jennifer Niven)

Hello, Everyone!!

For some odd reason, I have had so much spare time on my hands and I have gotten through books like there is no tomorrow. If you know me, then you know that it takes me several weeks, to months, to finish a book. I like to call myself a long-term reader. However, with this new burst of free time, I find my self finishing multiple books within the period of one month (which for me is quite an achievement).

The book that really caught my eye this month was one by Jennifer Niven, called All the Bright Places. It is truly a real life and real feelings kind of book.

The thing that really made me smile about this book was the character development. Often times books that have these elaborate scenes and plots, but the characters are empty. Niven, on the other hand, builds these characters and you can really feel connected to the story.

It is a story about life, about friendship, and about the obstacles we all face everyday.

I was reading the Author’s Notes and I found out that this book is based on an experience that Niven went through in her life. Although most of the story is a work of fiction, you can truly feel the raw emotion and connection to reality. It was truly heart-warming, heart-wrenching, and seemingly brilliant all at the same time.

After finishing the book, I was sat in my room staring at the wall, really pondering the story I had just read. When a book makes me stop and think, I think it truly is an incredible work of art.

For a short summary: It follows the lives of Violet Markey and Theodore Finch. They are both struggling with mental and emotional pain and find comfort with one another’s company.(trigger warning, it does reference suicide)

All the Bright Places was, hands-down, one of the best books I have read. It was truly an amazing read.

SO if you find yourself with some time, or wandering around  the library or Target or Amazon, I would check this book out.

I hope you all enjoy this read, and I will talk to you all next week!!

All the Best,

G

xx
